Fleeting Future - Reprise
Fleeting Future (2026)
Fleeting Future (2026)
I wrote this piece for the film Fleeting Future, a documentary about monarch butterflies and the threats that have drastically reduced their numbers.
This is a reprise of the opening, which plays over old footage of the butterflies when their numbers were in the thousands. I wanted it to be playful while also foreshadowing the darker elements of the film. Where the opening has an abrupt end, the Reprise continues on to a proper conclusion.
I was able to work with musicians to record most of the parts for the soundtrack, but not all of them. I filled the gaps with virtual instruments and worked to blend the different sounds together in the final mix.
(2024)
The Prince from Beyond the Heavens is a warrior who fights to defend his scattered people from the darkness that hunts them all.
This is a leitmotif I keep returning to over the years, and every time I do, it is a challenge to capture the prince's fluid movement and mental state. I wrote this version for a project to write a lengthy symphonic work, so I chose an intense battle as the subject of the composition.
(2022)
I wrote and produced this piece in a single evening to accompany a solo game design project I did as a student. The Great Starship acts as a mobile city for an interstellar nomadic species made up of fragmented communities. It is more than just a safe place for them, it also represents their hope for a brighter future.
I wanted to capture all those feelings in the music. I also needed to add an interactive element to the project, so I composed in layers that could fade in and out as the player traversed the starship. The version here has every layer I wrote working together.
The Bees and the Birds (2025)
I wrote this piece for the film The Bees and the Birds, a documentary about pollinator species native to the Southern coast of California, their significance to the ecosystem, and the threats they face.
While the bees open the film with a very playful theme, I wanted to provide some contrast by emphasizing the grace of the birds.
I worked with a string trio to record most of the parts, and I filled in the gaps on a digital piano.
Bed and BEAKfast (2024)
This piece was written for the game Bed and BEAKfast, a management and cooking game about a young bird returning to their home to renew the family bed and breakfast.
Since this piece doubles as tutorial music, I wanted it to feel energizing. I also wanted to bring in the eagerness of the player character in the clarinet interrupting with the main theme of the game while also leaving room for Sterling to be himself.
With only seven weeks to write the entire soundtrack to the game, I used virtual instruments to produce the music.
